5 Reasons to Come Back to Northumberland

Visit Northumberland with your coach group this year, and be sure to take in some of the counties top attractions. 2017 will see another busy year of events for the county, with the top five reasons to visit being published as follows:

  1. Opening Summer 2017 – The Sill, National Landscape Discovery Centre

A gateway to discovering our landscapes, The Sill is Northumberland National Park’s new Landscape Discovery Centre. Due to open in Summer 2017, there will be an on-site youth hostel, two education rooms, a café, shop, an extensive events programme, permanent and changing exhibitions and the awe-inspiring viewing platform which will give access for everyone to enjoy views of the Northumberland National Park and Hadrian’s Wall.

  1. The Cavalry are coming!

There are lots of exciting events coming in 2017 and beyond, including Hadrian’s Cavalry from April-September 2017, The Great Exhibition of the North in 2018 and fantastic annual events such as the Northumberland County Show, the Amble Puffin Festival and the Festival of the Heavy Horse.

  1. We have more castles than any other English county.

You may have visited amazing Alnwick Castle & The Alnwick Garden, or epic Bamburgh Castle on the coast. For another castle fix, try haunted Chillingham Castle, beautiful Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens or Etal Castle in the picturesque Ford & Etal Estate.

  1. Venues are offering new experiences and offers for groups.

Kielder Water & Forest Park have put together a range of packages for coach tours, including a boat trip on the Osprey Ferry and a selection of refreshment options. The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is becoming more accessible for groups thank to the Battlesteads Hotel & Restaurant who have built their own Observatory and are offering dinner with stargazing packages.

  1. There is always more to discover!

Did you know, for example, that Earl Grey Tea was blended to suit the water at Howick Gardens & Arboretum? It is such a large county, even if you have been before, you are bound to have missed something amazing!
