Mersey Ferries cruises are a popular choice for groups visiting Liverpool
Mersey Ferries has announced a fun packed week of activity to celebrate Half Term and the Platinum Jubilee weekend in honour of The Queen’s historic 70-year reign.
In 1977, The Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited Mersey Ferries as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations. The royal couple, pictured with Captain James McWilliam, took a cruise along the River Mersey on the ferry and were treated to breath-taking views of the Liverpool and Wirral skylines.
Mersey Ferries is once again pushing the boat out for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations with extended sailing hours over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday and live commentary from Blue Badge Guides on selected River Explorer Cruise sailings.
Mersey Ferries’ expert Blue Badge Guides will entertain all the family with surprising facts about the ferry, incredible tales about dastardly pirates, the ferries at war during World War I and Liverpool and Wirral’s fascinating maritime and musical history.
Live commentary from a Blue Badge Guide will take place on the following sailings:
- Tuesday 31 May: 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm
- Wednesday 1 June: 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm
- Thursday 2 June: 12noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm
- Friday 3 June: 12noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm
Mersey Ferries’ expert recorded commentary will play on all other River Explorer Cruise sailings.
River Explorer Cruises depart from 10am-4pm Monday 30 May to Wednesday 1 June and 10am-6pm from Thursday 2 June until Sunday 5 June. Cruises depart Liverpool Gerry Marsden (Pier Head) Ferry Terminal on the hour and Woodside Ferry Terminal at twenty past the hour and can be booked online at www.merseyferries.co.uk/jubilee
The terminals and ferry will also be specially dressed for the Platinum Jubilee and there will be a themed menu available from the onboard café- Café Cross the Mersey- with something for all the family including Coronation Chicken sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and kids’ picnic boxes. Little ones lucky enough to visit will receive a Mersey Ferries hand- held flag and a sticker for an added sprinkle of half term fun.
The 50-minute River Explorer Cruises are the absolute best way to discover Liverpool and Wirral’s world-famous waterfronts and are the perfect day out for all the family.
