The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has today published new statistics showing more than 3 in 5 adults (63%) took a holiday in England in the last 12 months. The statistics are part of the Participation Survey for May-June 2023 and show a five percent increase on the same period in 2022.
A couple of other points to note from the survey:
- Spending 3 to 6 nights away (46%) and spending 1 to 2 nights away (36%) were the most common durations for trips.
- Just under a third of respondents (30%) stayed in a traditional coastal or seaside town and staying in a countryside or village was the second most common response.
Tourism Minister John Whittingdale said: “It’s fantastic that more people supported our brilliant tourism industry, with nearly two-thirds of adults taking a trip in England this year. Whether it’s a quick city break, a seaside stay or a countryside escape we have a wonderful tourism offer that supports businesses, and jobs and provides opportunities right across the country.”
