Tours around the gardens can be arranged for groups at any time of year, which usually lasts around two hours. Tours with Head Gardener Jon Brocklebank are £350 for up to twenty-five people with a supplement at the usual group rate (please see NB at the bottom of page) per extra person for groups larger than twenty-five.
Your group will be amazed at how much colour there is to enjoy. Here is just a taster of the gardens in fabulous bloom in summer below:
The ‘Artisan’s Cottage Garden’ was built for the BBC series ‘Geoff Hamilton’s Cottage Gardens’ and designed around the old-fashioned gardeners’ theory that every plant will find its best place. All the features can be easily made by the average DIY enthusiast, and the plants are easy to grow and propagate. The entire garden epitomises Geoff’s approach, with the plants packed in and allowed to do their own thing.
The ‘Formal Pool and Knot Garden’ is a real stunner and highlights how, when designed properly, ‘less’ can be incredibly effective. Designed around a large water feature containing four cast bronze statue fountains by Lily Sawtell, this garden has a formal feel, and the stone seats and balustrade give it a distinctive Italianate atmosphere. In summer, the surround is a mass of scarlet as these beds are planted with just one variety of rose, the David Austin-bred Rosa ‘Sophy’s Rose’, edged with Lavandula angustifolia ‘Melissa Lilac’.
The ‘Modern Estate Garden’ is the size of an average housing estate garden and was built with a small family in mind. It incorporates a patio, lawn and enough plant features, borders, scree and pergola to interest any keen but busy gardener. This garden is resplendent all year round!
And, of course, you do not have to book a tour. Your group is free to wander around at their leisure, too!
