Life’s a Beach, We Are Weymouth celebrates Weymouth through the eras!
Weymouth has welcomed visitors for centuries—ever since King George III made sea bathing and ‘taking the sea air’ fashionable in 1789. Today, the tradition continues, with swimmers braving the waters of Weymouth Beach for health and rejuvenation. But what is it about this charming seaside town that keeps people coming back, generation after generation, to visit, live, and work?

We Are Weymouth, the town’s Business Improvement District (BID), is taking a trip down memory lane with its #WeyBackWhen campaign – an evocative look at Weymouth through the decades. The campaign uncovers the town’s timeless appeal, from sun-soaked family holidays to iconic coastal backdrops and from wartime homecomings to celebrity visits.
Through a stunning collection of images and personal stories, #WeyBackWhen highlights how Weymouth has remained a constant in people’s lives. Weymouth’s magic endures whether it’s families returning year after year, veterans revisiting cherished memories, or the town’s role in pivotal historical moments.
Weymouth Through the Eras
To celebrate the town’s vibrant history, We Are Weymouth is partnering with local businesses, including Weymouth Pavilion and popular pubs and bars, to host ‘Era Weekends’ throughout the year. Known for its love of celebrations and costumes, Weymouth invites visitors and locals alike to dust off their flares, embrace neon, and relive – or discover – the spirit of past decades.
The first event kicks off with a 1980s extravaganza featuring classic 80s films, anthems from the era, and, of course, fancy dress.
Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth, explains: “We Are Weymouth has built a fantastic community, with families returning year after year. The themes in their stories are always the same – Weymouth is about family time, stunning scenery, lively events, and great food. It’s been wonderful to hear these stories and now bring them to life with our Era Weekends. We’re launching with an 80s celebration – because, after all, no one puts Weymouth in the corner!”
Throughout 2025, We Are Weymouth will showcase the town’s rich history through stories, images, and exhibitions, celebrating the memories made and the lives lived here.
