30th anniversary year of being donated to the Trust

2015 is the 30th anniversary of Ightham Mote being acquired by the National Trust. It was donated by the American businessman Charles Henry Robinson, who purchased it in 1953 from three local businessmen who had bought it and saved it from almost certain demolition due to the level of dilapidation.
The Trust has since spent £10m on the restoration and conservation of this unique medieval moated manor house. Featured in a Time Team special programme on Channel 4, the work has been done gradually of that time whilst staying open to the public throughout. An exhibition in the visitor entrance shows the work that too place over the past 30years and there will be various events and activities to celebrate this anniversary.

Ightham Mote will be open 10am-5pm from 1 March 2015 (house open for prebooked tours before 10.30am and for freeflow from 11am).
The group rate is just £9 for adults (National Trust members free) with guided house tours available for additional £3.

The National Trust now own Cobham Mausoleum, Cobham in Kent. Close by is Owletts which is also owned by the National Trust, and once the home of the architect Herbert Baker – which together with the Mausoleum would make an unique joint visit – groups will be able to book tours to Cobham next year via the Ightham Mote office.
