Designed by Caruso St John Architects The New Art Gallery Walsall opened in February 2000 in the heart of Walsall town centre.
The Garman Ryan Collection was gifted to the Borough of Walsall in 1973 by Lady Kathleen Garman, widow of the great 20th century sculptor, Jacob Epstein. Kathleen formed this important collection with her close friend Sally Ryan. Together they collected over 300 important works by celebrated artists including Epstein, Van Gogh, Monet, Constable, Picasso, Degas, Matisse and Lucian Freud, alongside a wide range of artworks from across the world.
Garman Ryan Galleries
The changing exhibition programme on Floors 3 and 4 focuses on the contemporary visual arts. Presenting both solo and group shows and through artists’ projects aims to support and develop the work of living artists and to build and develop audiences for the visual arts.
The Gallery’s unique Art Library is a public reference resource, with free internet access, a large range of art books, exhibition catalogues and art magazines.
The Family Gallery on the Ground Floor is a new space where families can explore art together.
The New Art Gallery Walsall is open six days a week Tuesday to Saturday 10am-5pm, Sundays 12noon–4pm. Closed Mondays and Bank Holidays. Admission to the gallery is Free.
