The Deep Mine Tour is a family friendly interactive tour with new technology featuring a beautiful projection over the underground lake, it is the first to use augmented reality in an underground setting with iPads providing a window on the past.
It is a place children use miner’s primitive drills and hang by chains from the chamber walls just as the men would have done over 150 years ago. They lay fuses setting off powerful blasts using a Victorian plunger – which is proving to be very popular! Visitors gasp at the real life dangermen as they bring to life one of the most death defying elements of Victorian health and safety!
Customers access the caverns using Britain’s steepest cable railway to levels of 500ft underground and the passionate tour guides – many of whom have local connections with the mine and whose families can be traced back to Blaenau’s past – creates great memories for our visitors.
The Quarry Explorer is an off road adventure that will take you right into the heart of Llechwedd’s man-made mountains. Travelling in a military 4 x 4 truck you’ll drive up high to the top of the quarry and into some of the massive craters that were made by blasting the tops off our hundred-year-old caverns.
You’ll learn more about how this amazing landscape was formed, and why it is now the subject of a UNESCO World Heritage Status bid. You’ll take in views of North Wales like no other and have the opportunity to snap some great photographs.
