Christmas is always a special time at Waddesdon, and 2015 is no exception. The theme for the decorations in the House this year (open from 18th November) is Lights and Legends an evocation of stories, myths and rituals from around the world, some traditional, some exotic and some contemporary, which celebrate light at this festive time of year.
Outside, Artist Bruce Munro is creating another captivating light installation for visitors to enjoy and explore in the gardens, in the final year of his three year residency at Waddesdon. This large piece of immersive light will take you on a sensory journey through one of the most beautiful parts of the garden, beyond the Aviary. Not to be missed!
From dusk there will be a light show on the front of the House too; every thirty minutes a dramatic son et lumière will bathe the ornate façade inrainbow colours. The two giant sculptures by artist Joana Vasconcelos, new for this year and in the form of candlesticks made of wine bottles, will also be lit up.
There are masses of shopping opportunities at Waddesdon this year, from the well stocked and beautifully decorated Manor Shop to the Wine Shop, the perfect place to pick up a delicious Rothschild or Waddesdon wine for someone special. The Christmas Fair, in its location against the enchanting, floodlit backdrop of the House will run for an extra week this year, opening on 18 November and running until 6 December (Wednesdays to Sundays). And don’t forget to pay a visit to our special Christmas Shop at the Stables, open from 11th November.
Groups can take advantage of special Christmas catering options, with delicious lunch and afternoon tea menus. Or start your visit with our new breakfast option – a coffee and bacon roll on arrival.
