Destination Blackpool

Blackpool is very much on the up with ever increasing visitor numbers and resort wide investment in recent years.

In 2018 Blackpool welcomed the addition of a £16m+ rollercoaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a new £5m Elephant enclosure at Blackpool Zoo and a £1m+ Marvel exhibition at Madame Tussauds.

Increases in visitor numbers has been met with investment in the local transport network to offer an accessible, integrated transport system. The majority of Blackpool buses are now less than five years old and carry the latest in passenger technology. Features such as WiFi, USB Charging points, leather effect seats and next stop audio/visual announcements are just some of the features as standard on Blackpool’s new buses. Blackpool has committed to having no bus older than 5 years by 2020, part of a fleet regeneration programme that will allow customers to experience the very latest in bus travel by remaining at the cutting edge of technology.

Following its upgrade in 2012, the world famous Blackpool tramway now boasts 18 modern light rail trams with 11 miles of track across the Fylde Coast, whilst Blackpool’s iconic Heritage Trams continue to run on a tour basis regularly throughout the year. Plans to extend the tramway to serve Blackpool North Station are well underway and once complete, will offer a truly integrated transport network of buses and trams.

Getting around Blackpool has never been easier, or more affordable, and Blackpool Transport are changing the way in which visitors can access travel information whilst in resort. The recent launch of the Blackpool Transport mobile app allows visitors and residents alike to access integrated travel information with ease and subsequently purchase their ticket, but there will always be a calling for a good old paper based ticket.

More and more Hoteliers in the resort, along with Coach Operators, are choosing to retail or include a discounted travel ticket within their package. At a small cost, this is proving to be a popular choice and provides added value for the customer. Getting around Blackpool is easy, but it’s even easier when you have everything to hand when you arrive in the resort. Not least, it makes for a stress free trip with all of your travel needs taken care of.

Blackpool Transport want to talk to any operators who are planning to run trips to Blackpool throughout 2019 and beyond. Whether you’d like to discuss the opportunity to include a resort travel ticket as part of your package, or be able to offer a discounted ticket as an added extra, the team want to help.
