The historic monastery of Buckfast Abbey is free to enter, home to a working community of Roman Catholic Benedictine Monks. Located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, the Abbey is a haven of peace and tranquillity.
Renowned for its stunning Abbey Church with its Lantern Ceiling and its extensive grounds, visitors can also enjoy choral and organ music recitals and delicious lunches and cream teas offered in The Grange Restaurant. There is also a pizzeria on site. Peruse the gift shop and the recently opened Green Hub. Don’t miss the Monastic Way Exhibition, an immersive life experience as a monk.
Individuals and larger groups can find peace while strolling through the Abbey’s grounds. Bespoke tailor-made tours can be arranged, and booking is essential. The Grange Christmas lunch menu is available from 27th November to 22 December (weekdays only and excluding 30th Nov and 1st Dec), with the price held at last year’s.
The newly refurbished Conference Centre is an inspiring space for events and meetings, accommodating up to 200 delegates. Mark your calendars for the Christmas Market on 30th November – 2nd December 2023. This year, it’s staying open until 9 p.m. on the Friday with some excellent entertainment lined up.
For longer stays, there is a comfortable 33-bedroom Hotel Northgate House with additional self-catering accommodation and a large 50-bed building for groups.
