Reading Buses to offer free travel to Ukrainian refugees

Reading Buses have announced that they will join a nationwide scheme to allow Ukrainian refugees arriving in this country to get free travel from their port of arrival to their sponsor’s home.

The offer, which will run initially for three months, is valid on all Reading Buses, Newbury & District and Thames Valley Buses, including Green Line 702 and 703 services from London and Heathrow.

Said Robert Williams, Chief Executive Officer:  “At this incredibly difficult time for the Ukrainian people we are happy to help give them a warm welcome and make their arrival as straightforward as possible.

“Ukrainian nationals will simply need to show the driver their passport and a boarding pass which confirms arrival to the UK within the past 48 hours. They will then be able to travel for free to their destination.”

Reading is one of only a few places in the UK with a Ukrainian community centre, located on Sidmouth Street. They have been snowed under with donations since the war began and so Reading Buses expect to see a number of Ukrainian refugees arrive in the town in the coming weeks.
