For an ‘outstanding performance’ in a new role, a long-serving Reading Buses employee is one of two Stars of the Month for February.
Recently appointed Support Services Manager Kevin Pinches, 49, who has been employed by Reading Buses for 20 years, was nominated for working ‘diligently’ with others across the business to ensure the smooth operation of services during times of planned and unplanned disruption.
They felt that Kevin, who lives in Woodley, deserved recognition for exceeding expectations during the recent storms. He provided regular support and assistance to the control room team, generally helping without being asked, whilst also coordinating service changes in response to the various school closures during high winds.
Driver Richard Whittle, 54, who has worked for Reading Buses for 12 years, was nominated for the Star of the Month award by a customer.
The customer, a regular bus user, was travelling into Reading on the sky blue 16 at a time when the bus was particularly busy. There were numerous instances throughout the journey where Richard helped several customers who needed assistance – folding buggies to ensure there was room for all, including those with a wheelchair and fold-up chair.
The customer said “The driver could see people needed assistance so he got out to assist each time. This was actioned very swiftly and did not really impact on time. It was a pleasure to see these actions and all done naturally.”
“I think most of the passengers praised the driver on our way off the bus,” the customer added.
