At a time of year when some attractions and tourist destinations are closing up for the winter, Leighton Hall is doing the opposite.
Although the Hall is closed to individuals in the winter months, Leighton Hall in Lancashire is open in the evenings, for pre booked groups, to experience a historical house tour like no other.
Between November and February, the lady of this magnificent Gothic house, Mrs Suzie Gillow Reynolds (or one of her enthusiastic team) will guide you around her family home by flickering candle light.
Just ten mins drive from Junction 35 of the M6, Leighton Hall stands alone, within 1,500 acres of countryside and is the seat of the famous Gillow furniture making dynasty. More used to warm summers in the gardens, sunny strolls through the parkland and quintessential afternoon tea in the charming tea rooms, visitors find this candlelit tour a unique and memorable experience.
Bringing a glimmer of light to the dark winter evenings, the candlelit tour casts long shadows across the sweeping staircase and sets the mood for unravelling the secrets of Leighton’s past. Visitors will be able to discover why one previous owner, Mr Hodgson was jailed & why the imposing maple four poster bed was dubbed a “battlefield”. The fascinating history of Leighton Hall & the lives of its previous owners is brought to life during this atmospheric visit. The tour is completed with seasonal refreshments of mulled wine & mince pies beside a roaring open fire in the Music Room.
Mrs Reynolds said “The candlelit tour offers our group visitors something different from a normal afternoon out at a historic house or stately home. However, there’s nothing to worry about. Whilst it may feel a bit eerie to start with, rest assured there are only friendly ghost stories to tell!”
Leighton Hall is open all year round for pre booked groups of 25 or more. The candlelit tour including mulled wine and mince pies is just £14.99 per person & is available November 2016 – February 2017, with only one tour each evening. (Other group packages are available from £6.99 per person).
