The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway is a 12 mile main line heritage railway from Cheltenham Race Course through Winchcombe and Toddington to Laverton. A further 2 miles to the picturesque Cotswold village of Broadway are under construction.
Bought from British Rail just over 30 years ago the volunteers have built a nostalgic 1960’s themed line from the desolate waste left by BR, including the 15 arch Stanway Viaduct and the 693 yard, curved, Greet Tunnel.
Now you can see the superb views over the Vale of Evesham, across the Severn and into Wales. The 7 coach trains, seating up to 300 in BR MK1 carriages, can be block-booked for an evening excursion (with catering if requested in advance) or take a service train for the 2 hour round trip. Lovingly restored steam locomotives are the usual motive power, but heritage diesels are also available.
All our stations have modern facilities with Toddington and Winchcombe stations providing refreshments. Hot food at Toddington and a delightful 1950’s cafe at Winchcombe. Tea pots with tea cosies! Large car parks are at Toddington and Cheltenham Racecourse and a small one at Winchcombe. All are suitable for disabled passengers who are also catered for in specially adapted carriages.
For a day out or evening excursion the GWSR is sure to please! For further information please
