Transport your guests back in time with a visit to Wensleydale Railway! Wensleydale Railway is a volunteer-led heritage railway serving the local community, offering tourists, families and transport enthusiasts a great value day out in the Yorkshire Dales.
The 22-mile-long Railway is one of the longest heritage lines in the UK. It currently operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton (near Northallerton) and Leyburn, on the outskirts of the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park.
It has several restored historic station museums where visitors can learn more about 1900s railway life whilst enjoying free guided tours with costumed living history interpreters. Scruton station is an award-winning recreation of how a small country station would have been in Victorian times. On selected running days, it is staffed by volunteers in period costume who will guide visitors around the station and explain what rural life was like over 100 years ago.
Leeming Bar station has also been restored with the support of National Lottery funding and is now set in the 1920s. Like Scruton, costumed living history interpreters are regularly available to offer visitors an informative, guided tour of the station building. The railway also organises special events throughout the year, including afternoon tea trains and fish & chips trains. Every Christmas, it hosts the hugely popular THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride.
The railway can accommodate pre-booked groups of 15 or more guests on their scheduled heritage diesel train services and offer a group discount off our standard ticket price.
