A warm welcome awaits you at Gloucester Cathedral, one of the finest medieval buildings in the country.

Our knowledgeable and friendly Guides will lead you through 1000 years of history. Trace the architectural styles from Norman through Perpendicular to the present day where a team of stonemasons are still busy carving and casting. The extraordinary fan-vaulted medieval cloisters and Great East Window are national treasures and the Lady Chapel houses some of the finest Arts & Crafts glass in the country.

The tomb of Edward II became a place of pilgrimage in the 14th century and inspired the innovative cathedral building we treasure today. It is the only monarch’s tomb in the South West, one of only a few outside London and as such is of both historical and architectural significance.

Our acclaimed Cathedral Choir stems from that established by Henry VIII and is of an exceptional standard. You can hear the choir sing at the Sunday Eucharist and at most daily Evensongs during school term time.

While you’re here don’t forget to visit the Cathedral Gift Shop for unique and unusual gifts and souvenirs before enjoying our famously delicious Pilgrim’s Pie or Cream Teas in our cosy Coffee Shop.

Highlights this year include celebrating the 800th Anniversary of the Coronation of King Henry III which took place here in October 1216. An exciting programme of events is planned in honour of “The Boy King” including a re-enactment procession culminating in a “Crowning” at the Cathedral.

In July, we will host the 301st Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest music festivals in the world and for the first time in Gloucester there will be a Festival Village in the Cathedral Close. We offer something to suit everyone at Gloucester Cathedral and we look forward to seeing you soon.
